South Hill Park, London NW3

Modernisation and extension of Edwardian semi-detached house, including a new bedroom floor at roof level, and replacement of existing rear extension with 2 storey new extension.

Inspired by our client’s love for childhood memories of ‘inside/outside’ modernism in India, the garden and first floor rear was opened to the garden and the sky. The rear family room opens completely along one side with bi-folding glass doors onto the new decked outdoor eating space. The master bathroom above has a narrow sliding window that opens behind a fin-radiator as privacy screen.

The new build elements use sustainable materials, with softwood framing and (black stained) cladding. The client retained RDA to select furniture, and to complete the landscape redesign.
